Two 11-year-old girls have been approached by a man, who is believed to have been carrying a knife, as they were walking in Sheffield woods.

Two 11-year-old girls have been approached by a man, who is believed to have been carrying a knife, as they were walking in Sheffield woods.

The youngsters were walking through Wincobank Woods, Wincobank Hill, on Sunday June 26 when the incident took place.

At about 3pm, the man is said to have asked the two girls to follow him bu they ran away.

The girls, who did not know the man, told officers that they believe the man was carrying a knife, which he is alleged to have pointed at them.

No one was injured during the incident.

Detective Constable Jonathon Kirkham, the investigating officer, said the incident was ‘alarming’, but reassured the public that police were doing all they could to find the man.

He said: “Following initial enquiries, which have included analysing CCTV footage of the area and house-to-house enquiries, we are now appealing for anyone who knows anything about the incident to come forward.

“While I appreciate incidents like this are alarming, I want to reassure you that this is a priority for us and we are doing everything we can to identify the man involved.”

The man has been described as white, in his early 20s, with long ginger hair which was tied back in a ponytail.

He is thought to have been wearing a pale blue t-shirt which had drawings of female faces on.
