Who does Sheridan think she is?

The actress will be looking in to her local roots in the popular BBC1 genealogy programme, due to be broadcast tonight (Thursday September 4) at 9pm.

Sheridan’s mum Marilyn Smith said she is excited about seeing her daughter in the show, and does not know what family secrets she was able to uncover.

“They asked her to let it be a surprise for the family and she wanted it to be a surprise for us so we do not know anything,” said Marilyn.

She added: “She was delighted to be asked to be involved and we are looking forward to sharing her journey with her.”

“It will be very interesting for the family to see the programme when it airs, we are just waiting to see it, like everybody else.”

In Sheridan’s genealogy journey she manages to trace her great, great grandfather Benjamin Doubleday, among other relatives.

The episodes, which were filmed earlier this year, are part of the tenth series of the show.

The show will also celebrate its 100th episode during the series.

Sheridan, 33, grew up with her mum, dad Colin and brother Damian, now central to up and coming band The Torn. Her parents performed as country and western duo The Daltons and, as she grew up, Sheridan soon followed in their footsteps.

In 1999, aged 18, she landed her first television role in BBC period drama Wives and Daughters. Since then she has exploded across TV, big screen and stage.

She is well known for her roles as Emma in The Royle Family, Janet in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, and Rudi in Gavin & Stacey.

She also appeared on the West End in 2010, playing the lead role, Elle Woods, in Legally Blonde.

Sheridan also won a BAFTA for Best Leading Actress in 2013 for her portrayal of Charmian Biggs, wife of Great Train Robber Ronnie Briggs, in ITV drama Mrs Biggs.

Stars including Mexborough-born Brian Blessed, Julie Walters, Mary Berry, Billy Connolly, Brendan O’Carroll, Reggie Yates, Tamzin Outhwaite and Twiggy have also delved into their pasts as part of this series of Who Do You Think You Are.

A one-hour special will also feature in the series, reliving some of the most surprising discoveries in its history, including JK Rowling and Jeremy Paxman.
