Wakey, wakey . . . panto time is here again – oh yes it is!

For pantomime season is upon us once more and this year, Sleeping Beauty arrives at the town’s Cast theatre tomorrow.

A proper fun-filled pantomime, Sleeping Beauty awakens Doncaster with a huge dose of festive magic and sparkle from Friday 4 December right up until Saturday 3 January.

Live music, beautiful costumes and classic pantomime comedy combine in this refreshing take on a fairytale favourite for fabulous festive fun.

Cast’s homegrown pantomime follows on from the success of Cinderella and Aladdin.

Last year’s creative team reunite with direction by Cast’s Kully Thiarai and writing by Matthew Bugg and Tobias Oliver.

Once upon a time, in the far off land of Dozecaster lived dopey King Danum and his delightful daughter.

But wicked Fairy Nightshade puts an evil curse on the Princess, saying she will prick her finger on a rose and die.

Fairy Flora, with a wave of her wand, changes the spell. The Princess will not die but fall into the deepest of sleeps, only to be awoken by true love’s kiss...

Sleeping Beauty will keep audiences wide awake with light and magic as the forces of Dozecaster strike back against the dark side to save the kingdom from Fairy Nightshade and her Thorntroopers. There’s something for everyone if the force be with you...

Kully Thiarai said: “Sleeping Beauty is a real family favourite and we’ve got a great new version specifically created for Doncaster audiences with added Doncaster uniqueness. I’m looking forward to the theatre once again being filled with singing, booing and mayhem – just what panto’s all about!”

Back by popular demand, after last year’s bedlam, the raucous and rude Alan French dusts off his favourite frocks to play Dame Titiania, and Brett Lee Roberts (Buttons in Cinderella and Wishee Washee in Aladdin) returns as Lucas Mucas. Also returning is Aladdin’s Genie, Clara Darcy as Fairy Flora fresh from her title role in Miss Nightingale. Musical director Matthew Bugg is back as Giddy Goat, with George Bray and Patrick Bridgman back as Prince George and King Danum. Beth Hinton-Lever from Dancehall joins the pantomime company in the title role of Rosie/Aurora. The professional ensemble also welcomes Esther Grace Button as the wicked Fairy Nightshade and Sarah-Kate Howarth as Bramblebriar.
