I HAD always thought of Majorca as a destination synonymous with stag parties, sun worshippers and ‘Brits abroad’ types who are happier visiting a greasy spoon that sampling traditional cuisine and culture.

It turns out that image couldn’t have been further from the truth and whilst Majorca - the Balearic’s biggest island - does have an energetic party scene it is a country steeped in history, culture and boasting breathtaking scenery - if you know where to look.

If it’s a taste of tradition you are after the old town of Palma is well worth a visit with narrow winding streets, beautiful architecture and an extensive variety of bars and restaurants.

Valldemossa is also a must home to the stunning Raixa Palace and gardens dating back to the 13th century and boasting beautiful views.

And if it’s views you are after you can’t beat a trip to Formentor and the Cap de Formentor Lighthouse where on a clear day you can see all the way to Menorca.
