In The Saddle: Alyssia is in the ribbons again!

Well, we have been out and about again this season with my six-year-old little girl and her pony, Jasmine (affectionately known as Jazz) doing some more showing classes.

This time we went to the Wentworth and District Pony Club’s open show. This is our pony’s old stomping ground.

Before we got her she was part of this pony club with her little owner Chelsea.

I must admit, we didn’t expect such a warm welcome, but as soon as they knew we were Jasmine’s new owners everyone was pleased to see her return. Her previous owner, Jodie, Chelsea’s mum knew we were coming and the family were really looking forward to seeing Jazz too.

We wanted Lissy to continue her good work trying out little in-hand classes (little displays on the ground) and there were four classes which she could enter her pony in, if she felt confident enough.

The event was specifically centred around ‘showing’ and Lissy had worked hard after school cleaning her tack and washing Jasmine herself.

It’s very difficult to watch her clean tack, as I’m probably a little OCD about it all, so sitting back is hard to do when she’s ladling the cleaner on far too thick! I have to sit on my hands.

Alyssia did four classes on her own in the ring and we were amazed to see her and Jazz placed every time. We also did some lead rein classes together too.

All in all, Alyssia came home with three first places, two medals, two second places and two fourth places. We were absolutely thrilled.

I think the best bit for us was seeing our little girl in the ring on her own doing the classes in-hand. It takes some guts to go out there and compete in the ring with adults and their large horses but Jazzy is giving her such confidence, it’s a wonderful bond to see grow. We can’t wait to join the club next year.
