If you are fan of traditional all-round entertainers then I urge you to go and see John Barrowman on his current nationwide tour.
Entitled You Raise Me Up, John certainly hits the heights, covering all aspects of the stage, with singing, dancing, jokes and giggles aplenty, all staged in front of a backdrop montage of photos and video clips providing an
emotional insight into his private family life, which obviously is very precious to him.
He opened his show with an energetic up to date performance of Olly Murs “Wrapped Up” which got everyone into the party mood of what was to come.
That said, it’s not all disco diva numbers – John jumps from Cole Porter stage music, to Michael Buble style crooning to ballads to pop and rock.
Numbers such as Superheroes (by The Script) injected an up to date feel and he sang with total ease, his very powerful voice nailing every song.
This indeed was a show of variety and this was demonstrated by the age range of the audience - young to old clapped, danced and laughed with him.
You could see from the show how much his family are a big part of life to him - the stories and video clips he showed were particularly emotive.
And at one point his mum and dad appeared on stage to rock out with him!
Highlights for me (and my mother, taken along for support!) were definitely the Cole Porter set, which harked back to his musical theatre roots the aforementioned Superheroes, Xanadu and This Is the Moment – all were amazing.

Great support was given by John’s tour dancers, who danced energetically throughout with costume changes to suit the mood of the song.
John was supported by Swiss songstress Miel de Botton, who has just released her debut album Magnetic.
Miel performed songs in English and French, she is a particular fan of the tradition French style “chanson” and performed some self penned tracks from her album and in addition an uptempo version of the classic Edith Piaf “Je Ne Regrette Rien”.
If you’re a fan of the folk and easy listening genre, Miel is definitely worth a listen.
* John is touring throughout the UK in May and June 2015.
