TWO chefs are celebrating after grabbing a big slice of the action at a top Italian food industry awards ceremony.
Brothers Comron, 27 and Darius Hayati, 23, who run Red Tomato takeaway in Thorne Road, Doncaster, claimed a prestigious prize at the hotly-contested Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association awards in London.
The innovative duo won a Pizza Designer of the Year gong after impressing the judges with their innovative 'Pizza Bite' design.
They had to make their creation - a lighter, handheld variation of calzone - in front of the panel and other contestants in a pressure cooker atmosphere.
But they managed to hold their nerve and the evening was topped with a huge spoonful of success when the judges announced their decision. The pair, who live in Edenthorpe, had already claimed a regional designer award for their creation. They run Red Tomato under the guidance of father Parvis, 56, who has also won several awards for his pizzas over the years.
