Dearne excels in Barnsley in Bloom

THE green-fingered folk who brighten our days are about to reap their rewards...

An awards evening for prize-winning gardeners will take place on October 4 at Barnsley.

Dearne residents are among the winners of the Berneslai Homes’ and Barnsley in Bloom competition, that will stage its presentation ceremony at Cannon Hall Garden Centre.

Placed among the award recipients are the following people from the South Yorkshire Times’ area;

Best Garden: Mr and Mrs Berry, Moorland Terrace, Cudworth

Best Planter/basket display and Best Vegetable Garden: Mr M Clarke, Station Road, Wombwell

Best Planter/basket display and Best Wildlife Garden (senior citizen: Mr M Gregory, Challenger Crescent, Thurnscoe

Best Environmentally Friendly/Wildlife Garden: Mr P Beaumont, Queensway, Hoyland and Mrs S Depledge, Houghton Road, Thurnscoe

Best Child Friendly Garden: Miss S Heavey, Clear View, Grimethorpe

Tallest Sunflower: Liam Cockerham, Station Road, Wombwell.

Winners of the biggest pumpkin section will be announced at the ceremony.

The presentations will be made by Barnsley Mayor Coun Karen Dyson and Chairwoman of Berneslai Homes Suzy Brain England.
