FIFTY years is a creditable milestone to reach in any organisation, so when a group of Doncaster guides and brownies announced they are soon to clock up their half century they were rightly proud to announce it.

The 66th Doncaster (Chequer Road Baptist) units were founded in 1961 and in the last fifty years guiding has moved with the times.

The core principles of offering girls and young women great opportunities to learn new skills, accept challenges, help other people and, above all, have fun with their friends still continues today.

On Friday, May 13, there will be a celebration evening to which anyone who was ever a brownie or guide at Chequer Road is invited.

From 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be the opportunity to enjoy and reminisce amongst the displays of old photographs, chat with old friends, enjoy refreshments and, of course, join in a traditional sing-song.

Then on Sunday, May 15, there will be a special church parade service at 10.30am and of course everyone is welcome. This collection of pictures demonstrates the changes over the years.
