A bold plan by Doncaster rail enthusiasts to recreate a 1930s steam locomotive is moving another step forward.

The mainframe of the proposed new Cock O’ The North is going on display at a railway heritage centre in Didcot, near Oxford, to help raise the profile of the £9million fundraising campaign being mounted by the Doncaster P2 Locomotive Trust.

The steel parts will be on display for three months before transferring to the National Railway Museum at York.

Trust spokesman Alan Archer said: “We feel as though we’re on our way now.

“But we are still looking for premises in Doncaster where we can display it and hopefully build the locomotive. We keep looking round for a workshop with both road and rail access.”

n Anyone able to offer help to the trust with workshop facilities can contact Mr Archer on 01302 300010 or 07507 229118.
