Opening date for new Doncaster LGBTQIA+ bar announced - with Drag Race stars set to appear

The opening date for Doncaster’s newest LGBTQIA+ bar has been announced – with a host of stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race set to appear in the opening few months.

Monday, 19th April 2021, 11:54 am

The Library Bar and Lounge will officially open its doors on Friday 21 May at noon.

And the St George Gate venue is hoping to make a big splash on the town’s entertainment scene with three drag queen stars of the popular BBC TV show set to appear in the bar’s first few months.

July will see an appearance from Sum Ting Wong, while in September, Veronica Green will be putting in an appearance.

Draq queens Sum Ting Wong, Veronica Green and Tia Kofi are all coming to Doncaster.

Then in October, Tia Kofi will be the venue’s special guest.

And there could be many more to come in the months ahead too.

Manager Sam Teale-Price said: "We are also in talks with other RuPaul queens from the UK and USA to try and get them booked to perform here.

Doncaster hasn’t had an LGBTQIA+ bar since Bar NY and Crystals closed there doors years ago, so we want to give the LGBTQIA+ community something to look forward to.

The Library will be in the centre of town where the old Vintage Rockbar used to be – and signs have now gone up on the building

The bar has also announced its first resident drag family – Zehaus – and there will be other acts and performers announced in the coming months.

LGBTQIA+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, genderqueer, queer, intersexed, agender, asexual and ally community or people questioning their sexual identity – but the bar will be open to all.

Sam, who also runs the nearby Olde Castle pub with husband Craig, said: “We want Doncaster’s LGBTQIA+ community to have somewhere they can call their own. This will be an all-inclusive safe space for everyone to enjoy and have a good time.”

The split level bar will feature a downstairs dancefloor area ‘with a club vibe’ according to Sam, while the upstairs area will have a quieter theme to live up to its name, decked out with olde worlde books and vintage sofas and decor.
