The school council has voted to stock fruit pots (pictured with pupils above) instead of crisps and pop once each month in a drive to get and stay fit.

School business manager, Emma Sands, praised the youngsters for their initiative and said: “The original idea to make fruit kebabs proved too time consuming and so the school council settled on selling fruit pots.

“The youngsters have held about two of these so far and if they prove to be even more successful they intend to expand this and hold them on a more regular basis.”

She added: “The school council even designed their own posters to promote this initiative with the words ‘You are having a healthy fruit tuck shop snack’.

“So far the pupils have decided to sell fruit pots but this could be expanded and become more frequent and offer even more healthy options. The staff always try to encourage ideas such as these that are suggested by the pupils and they have taken this latest idea completely on board.”
