Residents’ fears that a vital Stagecoach bus service through their village is to be lost, have been allayed.
Changes to the twice-hourly route 224 service from Mexborough to Doncaster via Barnburgh are to be replaced by two alternative services.
This move is part of what is being touted as the biggest changes to Dearne Valley bus services in 20 years.
They follow a month-long consultation with the public that took place in February. Stagecoach claims people’s views have helped shape the new network.
One 40-year old Barnburgh resident said: “The changes might improve some services but I don’t think they have been advertised enough. Rumours have worried elderly people who rely totally on the bus network.”
Rupert Cox, commercial director, Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: Service 224 will be withdrawn but we will be making other changes that will enable customers to travel to almost all areas currently covered by this service. This includes the revised Service 219 which replaces the 224 between Doncaster and Goldthorpe, which will operate every 30 minutes, and the new Service 217, operating between Mexborough and Goldthorpe every hour.”
