See inside Doncaster's former Grand Theatre that has stood empty for 25 years

Never before seen photos taken by an urban explorer show the state of Doncaster’s Grand Theatre after it has stood empty for 25 years.

The man behind the camera, Jake Parr, has been taking pictures of empty buildings for almost three years now and says he loves doing it as it gives him a chance to document history and keep a record of how things were before the buildings get knocked down for goo

The 32-year-old from Manchester said: “It was amazing to see inside the Grand Theatre.

“It is still in really good condition if you consider the doors were shut in 1995; the paint is still bright the seats are still going around on the top of the theatre and it is such a great space.

“What it needs is an investor like the Heritage Lottery Fund who can see what it has to offer the town and put money back into it so it can be reopened and used again.

“If it is left to get in a really ruined state it will just be knocked down and all that history all those memories will be lost forever which would be such a shame.”

The theatre welcomed audiences for many decades and then changed use and became a bingo hall before finally shutting its doors in 1995.

Exploring with Jake has a strong social media following and he says this is because he is showing people what they would not normally see.

He said: “If you can see a way into a building you go in and see what it has to offer – it’s not breaking the law as trespassing is a civil offence not a criminal offence so all people could ask me to do is leave.

“When you walk into a building you never what you find – of course safety is my number one priority and I am always checking out ceilings making sure they look safe and what I can walk on but it’s amazing what you can find if you go looking.”
