South Yorkshire's coronavirus death toll soars to 462 as another 24 hospital patients die

NHS England figures released today show that 198 patients have died in Sheffield – an increase of three since yesterday.

In Doncaster, another 11 patients have died, taking the town’s death toll to 90.

There have been 96 deaths in Rotherham, which is an increase of one since yesterday and in Barnsley a total of 78 patients have died – up nine since yesterday.

A total of 19,746 patients have now died in hospitals in England, which is an increase of 445 since yesterday.

The UK remains on lockdown in a bid to halt the spread of coronavirus, with measures set to be reviewed by the government on May 7.

People can only leave home for shopping, exercise once a day, essential travel to work and medical supplies and appointments.
