Curators are calling on town folk to write the history books of tomorrow by recording their experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Heritage Doncaster is behind the History, Health and Happiness programme which aims to archive how the town dealt with coronavirus for future generations.

Budding historians can share photographs, start a diary or blog, share audio clips, or try scrapbooking, artworks and even knitting.

However the story is told, each chapter will be brought together to form an invaluable chronicle of how the community faced the coronavirus crisis.

Heritage Doncaster will post stories in a virtual online exhibition, and they may even be used to curate future displays in the new Danum Gallery, Library and Museum when it opens later in the year.

“History belongs to everyone, so why not help write it?” said Victoria Ryves, programme manager.

“History helps us remember times, like these, that should never be forgotten; but we wouldn’t know anything about the past, without people coming forward to tell their stories.”

People are also being encouraged to hang onto any objects that help illustrate their experiences of coronavirus, which could be added to Doncaster’s museum collections when it’s safe to do so, including examples of home-schooling homework, artworks, notes from neighbours, or official government notices.

To get involved, email [email protected] or on Twitter @DoncasterMuseum or Facebook. Please include a name and contact details.
