Doncaster GP surgery in warning over smear test text scam

A Doncaster GP surgery has issued a warning after a number of women were asked for personal details as part of a text scam.

Conisbrough Group Practice put out the warning on Facebook after being alerted to the smear test scam by patients.

A statement said: “We have received reports today of a possible scam.

“Some women are being contacted by text message, claiming to be from the cervical screening recall service, to advise they are overdue for screening.

“The message asks them to call a mobile number and provide personal details.

“These messages are not from the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.

“If you receive one of these messages and are unsure if you are due a smear please contact us directly and we can check your records.

“Thank you. Please stay safe and vigilant.”

Smear tests, or cervical screening, is a test to help prevent cancer.
