A spokesman said: “Yesterday's announcement may have some people feeling down, or anxious, as we enter another period of national lockdown.

"Together we've had a tough couple of months, but this will pass and we will be able to get back to normality. Just a little while longer - remember, sunshine follows thunder.”

Last week, the Trust said it was caring for 123 patients, with ten of them receiving intensive care.

It also announced that 1,500 coronavirus patients have now been safely discharged since the start of the pandemic last March.

Chief executive Richard Parker said: “We'd like to extend our thanks to you all for the persistent show of support you extended to us throughout this past year. Your kind words, donations, photographs, rounds of applause and your general support have really kept us going.

“Please remember to stay safe.”

Patients have also been told to continue to attend hospital appointments, unless instructed otherwise.
