South Yorkshire recorded 90 Covid-19 deaths last week with big rises in Sheffield and Doncaster

Another 90 people across South Yorkshire have died in the latest week after testing positive for coronavirus, new figures show.

There were 27 deaths recorded in Sheffield – up from 18 the previous week, and 34 in Doncaster – up from 27, during the seven days to November 1, according to the latest government data.

In Barnsley, there were 18 deaths – the same number as the week before, while in Rotherham, 11 people died, which is one fewer than during the previous week.

Those are the figures for deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

A total of 487 people have now died within 28 days of testing positive in Sheffield, with 297 such deaths recorded in Doncaster, 302 in Rotherham and 269 in Barnsley, taking the total across South Yorkshire to 1,355.

The number of deaths across South Yorkshire where Covid-19 has been recorded on the death certificate now stands at 5,620, including 1,768 in Sheffield and 1,618 in Doncaster.
