Officers in Doncaster stopped vehicles in Dunscroft, Askern and Thorne yesterday, Thursday, April 2, to check they were complying with COVID-19 restrictions.

Doncaster East Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Today warnings have been given ahead of fines being issued if breaches carry on."

The team added that while no fines had been issued, a record was being kept of those spoken to 'for future reference'.

People have been told to stay at home and only go out for food, medicine and other essentials, to work if they cannot do so from home or for exercise once daily.

Anyone caught flouting the new regulations could be fined £60 for a first offence or arrested.

South Yorkshire Police would not say how many alleged breaches had been reported or whether any fines had yet been issued.
