Of the 315 local areas in England, 142 have seen a rise in case rates, 171 have seen a fall, and two are unchanged.

On December 16, the first review into the tiers each area was placed in will take place.

This will determine whether Doncaster and the other area sin South Yorkshire remain in Tier 3 or are moved down into a lower tier.

The tiers are determined by a number of factors. The coronavirus infection rate, the rate among over-60s and the speed at which cases are rising and falling will all be taken into account.

Last week, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, said that the number of coronavirus patients being admitted to hospital in Doncaster was ‘broadly stable.’

Earlier this week, the Trust announced that it was likely that this week would see the admission of its 2,000th coronavirus patient.

In Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley the infection rate has been falling in recent weeks.
