Sophie Holgate had just finished a gruelling 12 ½ hour night shift at the hospital in Armthorpe Road when she discovered a huge dent in the roof of her Renault Clio.

Upset Sophie, 23, has since discovered that the vehicle will need a whole new roof – and could be written off after the vandal attack.

Angry mum Leigh Buchanan said: “She is a newly qualified young nurse and after a 12 hour night shift in these uncertain times, this is the thanks she gets.

“Some idiot decided to vandalise her car while she was inside saving lives.”

Sophie, who lives with her parents in Howden, didn’t initially spot the damage to the passenger side, with her dad only noticing it when she returned home after her shift on Saturday.

Added Mrs Buchanan: “The roof is crushed in and scratched – all while it was parked in the hospital car park and she was inside.

“We initially thought the damage was just cosmetic but we have now been informed the car might be a write off as it needs a new roof due to internal structural damage.

“It looks like someone has jumped on the roof. The people of Doncaster need to know what is going on.”

“She was so shocked and upset. We as parents were so angry but Sophie was just upset.

“The thing is, she has always parked on residential streets as she doesn’t have hospital parking. It’s only in the coronavirus crisis that they are allowing her to park in the hospital car park and then this happens.”

“The hospital CCTV has been checked, but unfortunately the car wasn’t in the camera’s viewpoint.”

The attack has been reported to Doncaster Police who are now investigating

She added: “We are all so upset that a young nurse has had this happen, especially now it looks like she’s going to lose her car.”
