Number of Doncaster hospital coronavirus patients rises again to 100

In its weekly update on the coronavirus situation in Doncaster, a spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust said that while there had been a slight increase, ‘numbers remain stable and consistent.’

Last week, 96 people were being treated at the area’s three hospitals – Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital at Worksop.

In an update issued last night, a spokesman said: “At the time of writing, we are caring for 100 COVID-19 positive patients. That is 80 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, 18 at Bassetlaw and just two at Montagu Hospital. The age range of these individuals is between 24 and 94, and seven require critical care.

“Our numbers remain stable and consistent, and we have reported prolonged periods where our inpatient numbers have dipped below 100. However, we do know how quickly things can change, so please keep up the good work, and continue to observe hands, face and space.

“As a Trust, a significant majority of our front-line workers have received the COVID-19 jab, while our vaccination programmes in Doncaster and Bassetlaw continue to march swiftly towards their targets, inoculating the most vulnerable.

“Stay positive and stay strong, and hopefully we will see more cause for optimism as we near spring.”

There have been nearly 700 coronavirus deaths in Doncaster, while more than 2,000 people have been successfully discharged after treatment, while the number of people vaccinated in Doncaster is approaching 50,000.
