Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said that 151 patients admitted to the trust’s three hospitals are recuperating at home after contracting COVID-19.

Announcing the milestone on Facebook, a spokesman said: “Today (Saturday) we safely discharged another three patients bringing our to-date total to 151.

“This is a fantastic and significant milestone to have reached – and made even more special that our colleague Jade was the 150th - thank you everybody for your support and keep up the outstanding work.”

There have been nearly 500 cases in Doncaster, with 98 deaths.

The figures do not include deaths in care homes or the community, meaning the figures are likely to be far higher.

They relate to people treated in the trust’s three hospitals – Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop.

Among the deaths in Doncaster are two of the Trust’s own staff.

Consultant Dr Medhat Atalla and plaster technician Kevin Smith, who worked at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, are among those who have lost their lives to coronavirus and last week, all of the NHS victims of the pandemic from across the country were remembered with a minute’s silence.

Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK had passed the peak of the virus but warned against complacency for fear of a second spike of cases.
