No new fatalities means Doncaster coronavirus death toll remains static

Doncaster’s coronavirus death toll has remained static after no new fatalities were recorded in newly released NHS figures.

The current total is 221, the same as yesterday.

It comes as local hospital bosses urged people to ‘be sensible’ and maintain social distancing as coronavirus restrictions are due to be eased further this weekend.

From Saturday, pubs, restaurants and cafes and many other businesses will all be allowed to re-open.

A spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust said more than 400 people with coronavirus have been allowed home after treatment in the region and added: “Summer is here, but please, help us maintain this ground that we have gained - stay two metres apart, be sensible and help us beat Covid-19.”

Locally, 285 deaths have been recorded in Sheffield, 193 in Rotherham and 145 in Barnsley.

The Doncaster figures relate to deaths within hospitals run by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital at Worksop.

Across the UK, a further 19 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,557 bringing the UK death toll to 43,569.

Scotland recorded no new deaths today – the fourth day in a row the country has seen a zero rise in fatalities.

It means the overall death toll from the bug in Scotland remains at 2,482.
