Nine more Covid-19 related deaths have been reported at Doncaster hospitals following an ‘extremely challenging’ weekend.

In its daily update, issued late yesterday, a spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust said: “Throughout the past day, we have admitted a further 10 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 and we are now caring for 199 such individuals - a slight reduction from yesterday (Sunday).

"The breakdown of this is 165 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, 14 at Bassetlaw Hospital and 20 at Montagu Hospital.

“Of these patients, 12 require critical care, with four on mechanical ventilation, 20 non-invasive ventilation and seven oxygen.

“To give you an explanation of why our overall figures have dropped, today we discharged one patient, while several more are no longer testing positive for Covid-19, but will still require hospital care. We wish them all the best in their ongoing recovery.

“With much sadness, we have reported that another nine patients have passed away with Covid-19 having played a significant factor in the cause of death. We share our most heartfelt condolences with those affected.

“We have just had an extremely challenging weekend, and we share our thanks with colleagues for their hard work throughout.
