People who flout Covid-19 restrictions in Doncaster are 'destroying' the mental health of pub staff, bosses at one town centre bar have said.

The Salutation says the way customers have been treating staff during the pandemic is ‘absolutely appalling’ with the abuse from people who refuse to wear masks and social distance adding to daily work pressures.

A Facebook post said: “We need to raise awareness, the way ‘customers’ are treating ‘the staff’ is absolutely appalling.

"It is destroying the mental health of those in the hospitality sector.

"We are having a hard enough time worrying about the future of our jobs, we shouldn’t have to be anxious about coming to work wondering who is going to shout at us today.

"The Government have chosen these rules, not the people who come to work every day to make sure you have a good night out.

"So give us a break, its not our fault. Be kind.”

It comes after bosses at a local garden centre also took aim at abusive customers berating staff over Covid-19 restrictions.

Walkers Nurseries in Mosham Road, Blaxton yesterday blasted ‘aggressive’ and ‘unpleasant’ customers failing to follow rules.

In a Facebook post, a spokesman said: “Unfortunately in recent weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in aggressive and unpleasant behaviour, towards our staff.

“All we ask is that you treat our staff, with the respect and courtesy they deserve. These are challenging times for us all and our staff are working hard to ensure we operate safely, as well as looking after our customer’s needs.

“Thank you for your understanding, we look forward to seeing you again soon.”
