Man caught driving car while launching fireworks from the window in Doncaster during coronavirus lockdown

Police in South Yorkshire have been inundated with complaints about people allegedly flouting the coronavirus lockdown rules, but one man appears to have gone further than others.

Officers in Doncaster have revealed how he was caught ‘driving his vehicle whilst launching fireworks from his car window’.

They said the man was stopped on New Street in Carcroft, where he was ‘dealt with for firework and motoring offences and warned over COVID-19 restriction breach’.

The incident was one of numerous breaches of the coronavirus regulations encountered by police in the west of Doncaster in recent days.

A fortnightly update by Inspector Adrian Luscombe reveals how reported breaches now ‘comprises the bulk’ of his officers’ work and there has been a ‘significant rise’ in the number of disputes between neighbours.

Mexborough had the most reported incidents of antisocial behaviour during the two weeks to April 9, with 18, followed by Bentley (16) and Conisbrough (15).

Warnings have been issued to people gathering outside flats and on paths in the area, Inspector Luscombe revealed, while a bakery was ‘spoken to’ about outside seating which was subsequently removed.

In most cases, advice or warnings were given, but some fines have been issued in the area.

Officers have also been looking out for the most vulnerable people in the community, and in some cases delivering food to those most in need.
