Latest coronavirus infection rates for Sheffield and South Yorkshire as vaccinations start

In Sheffield the infection rate for the week up to December 3 is 147.6 per 100,000 people. This means there were 863 new cases confirmed in that week.

Data for the most recent four days (December 4-7) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

In the week before, the infection rate in Sheffield was 181.8, reflecting 1063 new cases confirmed that week.

Meanwhile, in Doncaster the infection rate has been rising. It was 214.5 per 100,000 for the seven days to December 3. The week beforehand, in the seven days to November 26, it was 203.0, reflecting 633 new cases.

In Rotherham the infection rate is now 188.4 (500 new cases), down from 208.0 the week before (552 new cases).

And it also fell in Barnsley, where it is now 151.5 (374 new cases). The week to November 26 it was 206.2 (509 new cases).

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been chosen as one of the 53 vaccination hubs, and will store and distribute the Pfizer vaccine to other trusts in South Yorkshire and the surrounding area.

The vaccine will first be given to those in priority groups. With age being a major factor, older people will get it first, including residents in care homes.

Health and social care workers will also be treated as priority.
