Eighteen more die across South Yorkshire as Covid infection rate rises

Eighteen more people have died in South Yorkshire hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19, the latest NHS figures have shown.

This is a sharp rise since the day before, when just eight new deaths were confirmed.

The largest South Yorkshire death toll yesterday was in Barnsley, where seven more people died after testing positive. The toal number of deaths there is now 591.

In Sheffield four more died, meaning the total number of deaths at hospitals in the city remains at 881.

In Rotherham there were two more deaths, meaning the total stays at 558.

And in Doncaster five more people died, and the total death toll is now 731.

Nationwide a further 254 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 82,410

Patients were aged between 26 and 99 years old. All except 13 (aged 57 to 94 years old) had known underlying health conditions.
