Today’s Daily Mirror remembers the NHS staff and care workers that have died from Covid-19, including Doncaster Royal Infirmary workers Dr Medhat Atalla and plaster technician Kevin Smith.

In an emotional tribute, the front page of the newspaper features the faces of 182 frontline workers who have lost their lives during the pandemic.

This week also marks the 72nd birthday of the NHS and Sunday will play host to a final round of applause to thank the NHS.

To mark the occasion, public buildings across the country like the Shard and Blackpool Tower will turn blue and the television networks will break away from their schedules.

Health chiefs have unveiled plans for a memorial garden for the pair, while a separate fundraising campaign set up Mr Smith’s widow has already raised double its planned total.

A spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals said the garden outside Doncaster Royal Infirmary would also remember all the other local victims of coronavirus.
