Doncaster's Dome leisure centre turned into town's emergency lockdown hub

Doncaster’s Dome leisure centre has been turned into an emergency coronavirus lockdown hub.

The leisure centre was forced to close its doors last week but has been quickly repurposed as a focal point for dealing with the coronavirus crisis in the town.

Staff at the centre are working alongside workers from Doncaster Council, Age UK Doncaster and Food Aware CIC to help bring support and supplies to the town’s most vulnerable people.

Posting on Facebook, a spokesman said: The Dome looks a little bit different at the moment as we work alongside Doncaster Council , Age UK Doncaster, Food Aware CIC and many other local groups and organisations to ensure that our Doncaster community is looked after during this worrying time.

Last week, Mayor Ros Jones said: “We have been planning for coronavirus over the past month, In the last week we’ve been working closely with partners to pull together this Community Hub resource to help people in our communities.

“The Coronavirus ( COVID-19) pandemic has changed the way we go about our day to day lives and while we are all learning to adjust to these changes, for many people it will bring a great deal of uncertainty.

The Community Hub will provide a helpline seven days a week from 8.00am to 8.00pm – anyone can ring this if they are vulnerable and have no other support or if they know of someone who needs help

There isa also an email service to access and request support, an online chat service from 8am to 8pm and practical support such as urgent food supplies, shopping, collection of medication and checking up on vulnerable people

“We know that the next few weeks will be difficult for everyone and we will be working hard to make sure that we can help to ensure that everyone knows where to access the support available to them.
