Doncaster junior football team issues heartwarming appeal for food donations during Covid-19 crisis

A Doncaster junior football club has swapped soccer for shopping during the coronavirus crisis – and is seeking food donations to help the elderly.

Hyde Park Knights have been left without matches since the suspension of junior grassroots football because of the coronavirus pandemic – and players and officials are now using their spare time to collect food to help the vulnerable and elderly.

The club is appealing for food which will be delivered to help people in the community as the UK goes into virtual lockdown in an attempt to beat the deadly virus.

A club spokesman said: “We at Hyde Park Knights are still going to continue to serve the community but targeting a different clientele – the elderly and vulnerable.

“We are going to collect donations of the necessities and groceries and deliver them to the above groups of people.

“If everyone could donate something so we can keep the vulnerable and elderly safe in the Knights community, that would be great.

Officials will be accepted grocery and essential goods donatioms on Wednesday night from 6pm to 7pm and on Saturday from 10.30 to 11.30 at the pavilion on Elmfield Park.

The club has also donated £1,000 to top up the donations to maximise the number of people receiving the packs.
