Doncaster hospitals share message of hope after passing major Covid milestone

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced on Wednesday, February 17 that it had now cared for its 3,000th coronavirus patient since the pandemic began.

“It's been a challenging 12 months, but colleagues have been truly amazing throughout - we still have some distance left to run, but hopefully the green shoots of recovery are not too far off,” it added.

The latest statistics published by the Government show the trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, was caring for 48 Covid patients last Tuesday, February 9 – down from a peak of 234 on November 13.

Sadly, since the pandemic began a total of 784 people in Doncaster have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, with another four deaths reported yesterday, Wednesday, February 17.
