Doncaster has second highest Covid infection rate in England, new figures reveal
Doncaster has the second highest coronavirus infection rate in England, despite cases falling, new NHS data has revealed.
While the number of people infected with Covid-19 in the town is falling, the number of infections puts Doncaster in second spot nationally, only behind Luton, which topped the list in the latest data from Public Health England.
Official data states that of the 315 areas in England, 111 have seen a rise in cases.
Just 62 per cent (196 areas) have witnessed a fall in infections with eight areas remaining unchanged.
Doncaster’s rate is down slightly from 82.4 to 77.9 per 100,000 people with 243 new cases in the seven days to April 16.
Bradford in West Yorkshire has the third highest, down from 90 to 69.5, with 375 new cases.
Dr Rupert Suckling, Doncaster’s Director of Public Health, has repeatedly urged people to redouble their efforts in taking preventative measures in a bid to prevent Doncaster facing tighter restrictions.
