Britons are being urged to heed the government’s coronavirus rules to stay at home during the Easter holiday to minimise the spread of coronavirus, protect the NHS and save lives.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 18C across Doncaster, according to the Met Office, but the message remains clear and some police forces across the country have warned of a crackdown on people flouting the rules.

Doncaster Council echoed a similar message by sharing the government’s "stay home this bank holiday weekend" campaign.

Posting on Twitter, it said: “Stay. At. Home. That’s it. That’s the tweet. #StayHomeSaveLives.”

Since the lockdown measures were brought in on March 23, people have been told they can only leave the house for four limited reasons including shopping for basic necessities; one form of exercise a day; medical needs and travelling to work if you cannot work from home.

Speaking at the daily Number 10 press conference on Thursday, the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said everyone should cancel any Easter plans or Covid-19 would get “a second chance to kill more people and to hurt our country”.

Mr Raab is currently deputising for the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, who remains in hospital in his own battle against coronavirus.

Mr Johnson tested positive for the virus on March 26 but his symptoms worsened during his period of self-isolation at Number 10.

He is said to be making “very good progress” and continues to recover at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.
