Doncaster coronavirus deaths rise above 50

A total of 51 people who tested positive for coronavirus in the Doncaster area have died, NHS England has announced.

The latest figures, released on Friday, show that one more patient being treated by Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust has died.

That includes deaths in Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Mexborough’s Montagu Hopsital and Bassetlaw Hospital recorded and reported in the last 24 hour reporting period, which goes up to 5pm on Thursday.

However, the figure does not include deaths in the community or care homes.

The latest figure comes as the town has seen a fall in the number of new coronavirus cases for a second day.

The UK death toll has reached 14,576 as 847 new deaths have been reported in hospitals for the same period. That figure is for deaths in hospitals only.

On Thursday the Government announced a three-week extension to the lockdown.
