Doncaster coronavirus death toll remains static for nearly a week

There have been 229 recorded COVID-19 fatalities up to yesterday. The figure has not increased since last Saturday, when the figure climbed by one.

Nationally, a further 19 people, who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,144.

Patients were aged between 52 and 91 years old. All patients had known underlying health conditions.

It brings the UK death toll to 45.053.

Locally, there have been two further deaths in South Yorkshire in the last 24 hours of recorded figures.

There have been 289 deaths in Sheffield, an increase of one, with 197 in Rotherham, also up one. Barnsley has seen 148 fatalities, the same number as yesterday.

The latest figures come after the announcement that number of workers on UK company payrolls fell by 649,000 between March and June.

The overall jobless rate was unchanged but there are 47,000 more young people unemployed than there were a year ago.

Unemployment has not surged, as many feared, because large numbers of firms have put employees on the government-backed furlough scheme.

But economists say the full effect on employment will not be felt until the scheme ends in October.

Meanwhile, wearing masks and coverings will be compulsory in all shops in England from July 24.

Those who fail to comply with the new rules will face a fine of up to £100, the government has announced.
