The new figures, released by NHS England this afternoon, show there have now been 445 deaths in Doncaster.

Due to delays in recording and reporting, it does not necessarily mean the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, Doncaster’s total was 432.

The figures relate to deaths in hospitals run by the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop and Mexborough’s Montagu Hopsital.

However, the latest figures come as infection rates in Doncaster and hospital admissions continue to fall.

Last Thursday, health bosses said the number of patients being admitted to hospital in Doncaster with Covid-19 had decreased – but the number being treated remained broadly the same.

The devleopment was described as ‘positive news’ – but health chiefs pressed home the message for people not to become complacement.

In a statement, a spokesman said: “We have some more positive news this week as the number of COVID-19 patients we are providing care for has remained broadly stable rather than continuing to rise.

“We are currently providing care for 150 patients, 13 of which require intensive care. We have also seen a slight drop in daily COVID-19 related admissions, and long may this continue.

“We are hopeful that we are starting to see the impact of falling community infection rates but we cannot be complacent and would urge everyone to continue to be vigilant and follow the new restrictions when they come into force."
