Covid: 19 more die in South Yorkshire but infection rates fall

Nineteen more people died in South Yorkshire’s hospitals after they tested positive for coronavirus, the latest figures have shown.

In Sheffield seven more people died bringing the death toll to 715 since the pandemic broke out.

Meanwhile four more people died in each of Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley.

The total in Doncaster now stands at 638; in Rotherham it is 484; and in Barnsley it stands at 486.

This comes as the infection rates across the whole of the county fell to below 300, indicating a potential decline in the number of new cases recorded in recent days.

Nationwide, a further 1,027 people who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 63,322.

Patients were aged between 29 and 101 years old. All except 49 (aged 37 to 99 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed.
