Coronavirus LIVE: Number of cases in Doncaster reaches 49 as restrictions continue

The number of coronavirus cases in Doncaster now stands at 49, as restrictions on daily life continue.

Latest figures from Public Health England show the number of cases in the town is continuing to grow, with a further update on the total due this afternoon.

Nationally, there have been more than 1,400 deaths with more than 22,000 reported cases.

Last night, health chiefs said that social distancing measures introduced last week may already be making an impact on hospital admissions for COVID-19.

However, the peak of the virus is expected to hit in the next few weeks, with conference centres across the country being turned into huge makeshift field hospitals to deal with the huge spike in cases which is expected to peak around the Easter weekend.

Restrictions on daily life remain in place, with people only permitted to leave their homes for necessary work, essential food shopping, medical reasons and exercise.
