Coronavirus: Doncaster leisure centre shuts down for deep clean as staff member self isolates

A popular Doncaster leisure centre has been shut down for a deep clean after it was revealed a member of staff is self isolating after coming into contact with a confirmed coronavirus case.

Armthorpe Leisure Centre will be shut for 72 hours while specialist workers clean the premises.

A spokesman from Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust said: “This morning we had confirmation that a member of our staff at Armthorpe Leisure Centre has been in direct contact, outside of the work environment, with a person who is a confirmed case of COVID 19.

“Our staff member has immediately gone into self-isolation for 14 days.

“We are now following Public Health England guidelines and have shut Armthorpe Leisure Centre as a precautionary measure for 72 hours so that a deep clean can take place.

“The venue will reopen on Friday 20 March at 10am.”

It is the latest in a long line of closures in the Doncaster area over COVID-19.

Doncaster Racecourse has announced all its fixtures will take place behind closed doors until at least the end of March, while Doncaster Dome has cancelled all its shows and events with immediate effect up until June.

McAuley Catholic High School is closing from tomorrown while Armthorpe Southfield Primary School is set to re-open tomorrow after a deep clean.

The school was shut on Monday after a member of staff began displaying coronavirus symptoms.

Doncaster Rovers fixtures until at least April 3 have also been called off.
