Eddie Todd, owner of Uncle Eddie’s Motor Track at Carcroft had earlier announced his business would be open ‘all week’ – even though Government guidelines are encouraging social distancing in a bid to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic spreading further.

He also announced that visitors to the track in Bentley Moor Lane were being ‘disinfected.’

But he has now backed down and posted on Facebook: “Uncle Eddies closed until we beat this virus.”

In a post on Facebook describing how the park had been open over the weekend, he said: “Great day at Uncle Eddie’s – everyone got disinfected, the two metre rule was enforced, only takeaway food provided – no accidents all stayed safe.

He has previously stood for Parliament and Mayor of Doncaster – with a range of ‘unusual’ policies.

Standing at last year’s General Election, he said he would solve Brexit – by forcing Ireland to leave the EU as well with the UK paying the funding it would lose instead.

At the 2017 Doncaster Mayoral election, he finished fourth and blamed his defeat on a police "set-up" after video of him being spoken to by officers over an "ambulance" he was using as a campaign vehicle went viral.

Mr Todd, who wants to build a Disneyland theme park in Doncaster, called for the election to be re-run, saying the clip had wrecked his entire campaign and lost him thousands of votes.
