Coronavirus: confirmed cases in Doncaster nearly double in 24 hours

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Doncaster has nearly doubled in 24 hours, Public Health England data shows.

Confirmed cases in the town have risen from 21 to 38 since Friday, an increase of more than 80 per cent. It is the biggest single-day rise in Doncaster so far.

The number was released as part of Public Health England’s (PHE) daily breakdown of confirmed cases in each area.

It comes as two more people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in South Yorkshire.

Across the county, there are now 518 confirmed cases of Covid-19. That number is comprised of 361 in Sheffield, 62 in Barnsley and 57 in Rotherham, on top of the confirmed cases in Doncaster.

In order to help stop the spread of the virus, South Yorkshire Police have started putting checkpoints in place on roads to prevent ‘non-essential’ travel.
