Coronavirus: 20 deaths at Doncaster & Bassetlaw hospitals

A total of 20 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died at Doncaster and Bassetlaw hospitals.

The figure, released today (April 7) is for all hospitals controlled by the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop.

It is not yet known how many of the fatalities were from Doncaster. The Free Press has contacted the trust for comment.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, a further nine people have died in Sheffield, bringing the total number of deaths there to 60.

Two more patients have also died in Rotherham, which brings the town’s death toll up to 14. In Barnsley, 23 people have now died following a further two fatalities.

Nationally, a further 758 patients diagnosed with coronavirus have died in England.

It brings the total number of confirmed hospital deaths in England to 5,655 - up from 4,897 at the same time on Monday.
