A third of people in Doncaster are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19

A third of people in Doncaster have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

NHS data shows 88,094 people had received both jabs by May 9 – 35 per cent of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those to have received both jabs, 78,154 were aged 40 and over – 49 per cent of the age group.

It means 9,940 people aged between 16 to 39 have received both doses.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Doncaster

Areas with the highest coverage:

1) Old Cantley, Auckley and Finningley, with 83.5 per cent of people aged 16 and over given their first dose

2) Tickhill and Wadworth, 82.3 per cent

3) Bessacarr Grange and Lakeside, 82 per cent

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Central Doncaster and Hyde Park, 39.5 per cent

2) Hexthorpe and Balby North, 52.2 per cent

3) Balby Carr, 54.9 per cent

In total, 29.4 million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 65 per cent of people over 16.

Despite the success of the rollout, some staff at care homes in Doncaster have not been vaccinated.

The figures show 1961 out of 2247 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received a first dose by May 9 – meaning 13 per cent have not had a jab.

The Government is currently in consultation over plans to make the jab mandatory for staff over concerns for residents.
