16 more patients lose their battle with coronavirus in South Yorkshire

The South Yorkshire Covid-19 death toll has risen again after 16 more patients lost their life to the disease, the latest NHS figures have revealed.

Three more people being treated for the deadly bug have passed away in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data released today (January 6), bringing the total coronavirus-related fatalities across the city to 625.

Six further deaths was recorded in Doncaster, where the death toll stands at 587, and in Rotherham there have now been 441 deaths after one more was recorded.

The Barnsley death tally hit 447 after six additonal deaths.

Nationwide, a further 674 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 53,069.

Patients were aged between 21 and 101. All except 29, aged between 50 and 101, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between November 11 and January 5.
