Doncaster headteacher swaps secondary schools after taking up new job
A Doncaster headteacher has switched from one of the town's biggest secondary schools to another after taking up a new job.
Andy Peirson, currently principal of Armthorpe Academy, has been appointed as the new head of Ridgewood School in Scawsby.
Mr Peirson will take up his new role in January.
He will replace current Ridgewood head Maggie Dunn who announced earlier this year that she was retiring.
In a letter to parents, Ridgewood’s governors paid tribute to Miss Dunn and also welcomed Mr Peirson, who will take up his role after a stint in charge by interim headteacher Jean Pickerill, who will cover the period between September and January.
It said: “During her six year tenure, Miss Dunn introduced a series of very successful systems, alongside highly focused staff development initiatives, that provided our colleagues at Ridgewood with a rigorous, innovative and accountable learning environment.
“This in turn, has encouraged our students to thrive, maximise their potential and leave Ridgewood equipped to make informed choices for their future development in the wider
“It is clear Miss Dunn leaves a strong legacy, including a new uniform which the students are very proud to wear, that our new Headteacher can build on to ensure Ridgewood continues to go onward and upward in the coming years, and gain the national recognition it truly deserves.
“We would like to wish Miss Dunn every success in her retirement, and thank her for her dedication, commitment and drive to put our student’s well-being and high achievement at both the heart of our community as well as their future success.
“We are pleased to announce that following a successful interview process, Mr Andy Peirson has been appointed the new Headteacher of Ridgewood School, expressing his delight at being given the opportunity to lead the school and develop it further.
It added: “We welcome both Mrs Pickerill and Mr Peirson to our community at Ridgewood and look forward to working with them both, as we say many thanks to Miss Dunn for her significant contribution to Ridgewood and the wider community.”
