After consulting with parents, students will now get a five week summer holiday, a two week break for October half term and a fixed Easter break which will be on the same dates every year.

A council spokesman said: “You may remember earlier in the year, we were looking for opinions from parents, families, school staff and other groups on whether schools in Doncaster should look to keep the existing holiday pattern, or whether to opt one of a number of alternative options based on feedback we have received about how holiday patterns work best for everyone.

“We received a huge 7,000 plus responses to this consultation, and with a clear preferred option, we will be implementing a new school holiday pattern for the 2021/22 academic year.”

The changes will only affect the 31 ‘community schools’ in Doncaster which the council maintains, although the authority will be encouraging other schools and academies to follow the same pattern where possible.

The statement added: “The option that was chosen as the preferred new holiday pattern will see a fixed Easter break – which will now be known as Early Summer Break - with a two-week October half term and a five-week summer holiday, breaking up a week later than usual in July.

The changes will take effect from September 2021 for the 2021/22 academic year.
