Success is more than just a pipe dream for plumbing and drainage firm Wavin Limited.

The Edlington-based company - which makes plastic piping systems for residential, non-residential and civil engineering projects - is a new entry at the top of Doncaster’s table of top manufacturing firms.

It made more than £11.4m in pre-tax profits, according to the latest available accounts.

Turnover was more than £160m - earning it seventh place in the overall table showing turnover. This is up from 10th last year.

The Netherlands-headquartered firm has a presence in 25 European countries, with 40 manufacturing sites.

Wavin employs around 5,550 people and in 2012 became part of the Mexichem Group, a Latin American leader in pipe systems and petrochemicals.

The company announced in 2014 it was investing £15m in expanding its two main plants at Edlington and Chippenham.

The firm outlined last year that the development will result in a dedicated plumbing and heating manufacturing facility in Doncaster.

Brent Nicholls, Wavin’s managing director for South West Europe, said at the time: “The planned changes to our manufacturing facilities in Doncaster and Chippenham will simplify our supply chain and improve the service offering to our customers. Focused manufacturing will help drive innovation and improved customer service.”

In second place on Doncaster’s pre-tax profits list is Bridon International Ltd with more than £11.3m in pre-tax profits. The Balby-based firm manufactures wire, wire rope and associated products for a range of industries, including the oil and gas, mining and construction sectors. Turnover was just over £153m, earning it 10th place in the overall table.

Pegler Yorkshire was third, making just over £7.5m. The firm operates from three sites in the UK - the Doncaster head office, Leeds and Rotherham - with three overseas factories.

The company has more than £146m turnover, earning it 13th place on the wider turnover table.

The company manufacturers valves and other engineering products. Last year, the firm completed a £15m investment in its primary casting and stamping facilities.
